I started this blog because I felt the need to preserve memories, and to document what I’ve learned about figure skating along the way. I also find that in this niche, there’s often a lot of gatekeeping, semi-secret insider information and secret tips, and so much not well written down knowledge that beginners have no access to.
There are not many good books on figure skating, and beginners have to sift through plenty of YouTube channels. A lot of the information I found on figure skating, I found by accident, and not while actively searching. This is especially hard for self-taught skaters or skaters that do not have access to coaching sessions regularly. Many websites on this topic are also outdated, lack valuable information or are simply trying to sell something instead of first actually providing help.
I wanted to counteract this with something that is neither overly professionalized nor detached from the everyday experience of a figure skating beginner. So this is my story as a beginner adult figure skater, and also my kid’s story, who is a junior athlete.
